This Week in CyanogenMod

Week Ending: September 06, 2013

“This Week in CyanogenMod” is an ongoing feature that aims to serve as a one-stop shop for weekly updates. Topics discussed are culled from our social media accounts, gerrit, status updates and general thoughts.

September is here, its going to be a busy month for us and this week was just the start.

CM 10.1.3 RC2

Continuing on the path to closing out the CM 10.1 code, we released our second release candidate this week. You can flash this on top of the RC1 without issues, just don’t try to flash it on top of 10.2 nightlies.

Android 4.4’s name was announced, but that was all that was announced. Like most of you, we would also like to get to work the new Android version, but until that source code is made public, there isn’t anything for us to do but wait and eat some chocolate.

LG Optimus G Pro

Ricardo (arcee) was kind enough to link up a custom recovery for this device, might come in handy for a few of you soon :)

HTC One Mini

Adding to our ever growing device list, Negri Electronics stepped up to help out yet again, this time sending us the One Mini. Stay tuned for ‘codename: m4′ builds to be released. The Negri team has been great to work with and we appreciate their support of CM and the community.

Trebuchet Icon Support (round 2)

Adding on to the ‘theme icon pack’ support from last week, a patch is now on Gerrit to allow per-shortcut selection of icons. As of now, it is up for review, but should hit the nightlies soon.

When boot animations attack!

The nightlies from 9/6 broke almost universally. This has been patched since.

We haven’t forgotten, more is coming 😉

Got a suggestion for a topic you’d like to see in the next round-up? Let us know in the comments below. All device/port requests will be ignored.

  • Fareed Ahmed

I’d be interested to see how 4.4 will fit in with cyanogenmod. Presumably, if the source is released in the near future, then development for 10.2 will skip straight to the next version? :)

  • Corbin Davenport

My friend owns a Nexus 10 and downloaded the 9/6 nightly before I told him it was broken. Flashed the second to latest nightly (9/4 I think?) and it was all well. I think one hiccup in such early stages of CM10.2 isn’t too shabby, I’ve been on the nightlies for two weeks on my TF300T and I have yet to encounter any problems besides those with Focal.

I’ve said it every time I comment here, but I’ll say it again. Thanks for all the hard work CyanogenMod, please keep doing awesome stuff! 😀

  • infogulch

Maybe they’ll get 10.2 to an M release and then move on to KitKat, which will probably be CM 10.3 since they try to match version numbers directly with aosp.

  • mcored

It will be CM 11.0 because K is the 11th letter in the English alphabet.

  • Corbin Davenport

But won’t it be a point release because Google is naming it a point release?

  • Aaron

When confronting any complainer of free software that rarely gives undesired results I go to a paraphrase of Eddie Murhpy – Have a recovery and a smile and shut the Eff up. thank you CM team for always being there for us schmucks that would be lost otherwise.

  • Henry Park

    They moved from CM9(ICS – 4.0) to CM10(JB – 4.1).

  • Henry Park

Back in when they had similar situation they did finish CM9 and moved to CM10 so my hope is that they will finish CM10.2. Though I’d imagine a lot of us wouldn’t really mind them skipping or stopping at RC.

  • Henry Park

Ya I had the same problem so I stepped off of the nightlies.
though we can’t really complain too much about the amazing work they do 😛

Now if we could just get Halo on CM 😛
    jkjk xD

  • Aalaap Ghag

How about configurable rows/columns for the app drawer in Trebuchet? It already lets you do that for the homescreen icons.

  • Jason Ng

My tilapia still stuck on 10.1, no 10.2 nightly yet. Sad!

  • Dima

Check XDA, I think temasek has a build up…

  • Exterminatus

All these builds are not official, however. When Google’s 2012 Nexus device hasn’t official Cyanogenmod support in 2013, this is really sad.

  • Dima

    Yeah, sure…
But unofficial builds are often as good or even better… On my sgs3 the official build has worse performance and worse battery life than temasek’s build… Plus there’s halo for the fans ^_^

  • Anthony Plummer

Can we get a blog post detailing exactly what the CM Account will do for us, where work is on the project, what work is left to do, and what direction you’d like to take the service?

  • Thunor Oðinson

Oops! Looks like tonight’s (9/7/13) builds are also broken (at least for d2att). Just flashed and same hang on boot happened at the splash screen with the CM android logo right b4 the boot animation’s supposed to come up. Probably a similar issue to the 9/6/13 nightly builds?

  • Benny Schmidt

    CyanogenMod bumps up the version everytime a new name is announced: 2.1 CM5, 2.2 CM6, 2.3 CM7, 3.0 – never released, 4.0 CM9, 4.1 CM10

  • yuht

in ROM for Endeavoru (Htc one x , s720e) ,

    they are not work.

    is work very well.

    how to do?

  • Sam

4.4 kitkat? What about android 5? I thought that was coming next?

  • xRaF7

Yup, even for jfltetmo is still broken again. I dirty flash back to 9/5 and worked just fine.

  • yuht

my htc one x is as same….

  • Javier Maria Casares

The interface was there, so I wondered why not having per-shortcut selection of icons. Now we have it. Thanks! :)

And of course, as always, many thanks for your hard work!

  • Iñaki Unanue

I hope to read news about HALO soon… :)

  • Corbin Davenport

He wasn’t complaining, he just wasn’t sure what to do since he has only used CM for a few weeks.

  • Corbin Davenport

    Halo is in Paranoid Android…

  • Corbin Davenport

The builds were broken two days in a row due to a (I think) compiling error when they were put together. But the latest nightly is running fine on my Transformer.

  • Aaron

Wasn’t saying anyone specific was complaining. My comment was a general sentiment. To those that do complain.

  • kevk60

Been a few problems with the 10.2 release but the CM devs always fix them in short order. Always do a great job. CyanogenMod is still the best.

  • kevk60

Been a few snags with the 10.2 release but the CM devs always fix things in short order. Thank you for your efforts. CyanogenMod is still the best!

  • BrokenPencil

It is coming next. after 4.4 and what ever other numbers come before 5.

  • Braiden

Hello I was just wondering if it is possible for you guys to add the features that Samsung have on there stock portable hotspot which allows you to monitor what devices are connect to the device as well as block Mac addresses. Would be much appreciated if you guys could add something similar to this to your rom. Cheers.

  • nicolas produit

I would like to see ad-hoc wifi

  • nicolas produit

I would like also to see reverse tethering by usb.

  • Alex

still no app2sd? does it work or not?

  • Guest

WiFi direct should be added on to whichever phones support it. It’d be a nice feature rather than just having to use NFC all the time

  • georgeou

What’s the recovery procedure? I ran an update to 10.2 from 10.1 and mine hangs at the logo.

  • Aziz

are you will firmware for M4 HTC One mini?
